A Chicago police officer was hit in a traffic accident

Chicago police said an officer responding to a large gathering in the South Shore neighborhood overnight was struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop.

Around 2:15 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a large gathering in the 7500 block of South Phillips Avenue and one of the officers trying to control traffic was struck by a white sedan, which fled east, police said.

The officer was hit in the leg and was released after being treated by paramedics.

No one was in custody and detectives were investigating.
