Man runs to Goudy Elementary School for help after shooting in Chicago’s Uptown injured him and a 9-year-old girl on Winthrop Avenue

CHICAGO (WLS) — Authorities said a 9-year-old girl was one of two people shot Friday afternoon near a North Side elementary school.

Chicago police said the shooting occurred in the Uptown neighborhood at 5100 North Winthrop Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. Chopper 7 was over the scene.

Police said a 9-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man were standing near the sidewalk when someone fired shots, striking them.

The girl, who suffered a grazing injury, was transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital in good condition.

A Chicago Fire Department spokesman said the man shot in the arm ran to nearby Gouda Elementary School for help.

He was transported to the Masonic Hospital in Illinois in good condition.

No one is in custody and local detectives are investigating.
