Guruprasad was a prominent Kannada film director, known for his satirical style and socially relevant themes. His debut film Mata (2006) gained recognition for its unique narrative. He then made Eddelu Manjunatha (2009), a black comedy that became one of his best-known works and won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Screenplay. The film explores themes of apathy and struggle in a lower-middle-class environment and gained popularity for its gritty, realistic portrayal of life.
In 2013, he made Director’s Special, another satirical film that also gained attention for its criticism of the film industry itself. His later work, Eradane Sala (2017), presents a complex love story, showing his versatility in working with different genres while maintaining his trademark satirical tone. Guruprasad’s latest film, Ranganayaka, released in 2024, unfortunately performed poorly at the box office, which is said to have deepened his financial difficulties.
