Three teenagers died on Friday evening after a car hit a tree near Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

Police said a black Seat Ibiza was driving on Bramley Lane in the village of West Bretton when it left the road and hit a tree at about 8.30pm.

The 18-year-old driver and two 19-year-old passengers died, and two other men traveling in the car were taken to hospital.

The condition of one is said to be critical, the other has injuries that are most likely not life-threatening.

Residents reported there was “a lot of traffic” around 9pm on Friday when emergency services and police arrived.

“I noticed there was a commotion about the police helicopter and sirens,” said a local businessman.

Speaking about the deaths of the three teenagers, he added: “It’s tragic. Terrible”.

The police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them immediately.

West Yorkshire Police’s senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, said: “This is a tragic incident which has left three people dead and a fourth person with serious injuries.

“Our thoughts go out to the families of those involved and we are working with them to provide support.

“Our collision investigation specialists are investigating the circumstances of this fatal collision and we are appealing to anyone who may have seen the car involved, or who may have dash cam or other video footage that will assist our investigation, to contact us.”
