The new theater edition entitled The Brutalist has received 10 nominations for the Academy Award and already offers three Golden Globe awards. But I think it is an intense, uneven epic drama about the brilliant Jewish-Hungarian architect who survived the Holocaust and came to this country in 1947. Unfortunately, his many years of struggle to success in this country brings great personal costs. Adrien Brody is as good as a long -suffering immigrant that I think he will receive his second academy award. (The first was for the pianist twenty years ago.) Parts of the brutal are convincing, but other parts are disturbing and misleading. In addition, it’s too long: 3 hours and 35 minutes with a 15 -minute break. In 33 years, the extensive plot brings many other characters, some of which disappear without explanation before the final end of the film. In addition, there are scenes of addiction to heroin, prostitution and rape. Brutalist can be a film recognized by critics, but despite his wonderful actors it was difficult to sit down.
