Fleetwood Town striker Ronan Coughlan will be available for nine months after rupturing his Achilles tendon in Carlisle United’s defeat on Saturday.

The 28-year-old, who is the League Two club’s top scorer, was injured while scoring his 10th goal of the season.

He will now miss the rest of the campaign, as well as the start of the 2025-26 season as he begins a long period of recovery.

“It’s really sad news because he’s been outstanding this season,” boss Pete Wild told BBC Radio Lancashire.

“He’s having surgery tonight and it’s going to be a long road. We need to support him inside and outside the building.

“He has real quality and our job is to make sure he comes back bigger, stronger and just as good, if not a better player than he was before.”
