It seems that WhatsApp has a permanent multimedia error that allows users to view it for an indefinite period

WhatsApp introduced its function “display once” for photos and movies in August 2021, later expanding it to voice in December 2023. To activate this function for any media, users must touch the icon “1” before sending. The media shared with the “view once” option enabled is aimed at disappearing after watching or playing by the recipient. However, there have been concerns about an error that enabled indefinite access to such media.

The new report suggests that WhatsApp has quietly solved this problem.

WhatsApp fixes a multimedia observation error

According to Android Police, WhatsApp has released an amendment for an error that allowed iOS users to bypass the “view once” limitation and display disappearing media many times. Apparently, the defect only affected the iOS version, leaving Android users without influence.

The report explains that iOS users can use this error by going to settings, choosing memory and data, and then navigation to manage memory. From there, they could locate the contact, which was made available by disappearing media, use their name and display memory details. Sorting the media according to the “latest” previously opened “view”, when the media appears again at the top, enabling repetitive access despite the intended one -time browsing of the functions.

The Police Team in Android was able to repeat the problem and gain access to “see once” many times from Thursday, January 23. However, they informed that they were unable to do it this week, which led to the conclusion that the Meta quietly introduced a correction on a weekend error. The company still has to issue a public statement on this matter.

Interestingly, a similar problem was previously reported to WhatsApp Web in September 2024. At that time, internet version users who generally cannot view “media browsing once” were able to view and save such media. This error was then solved with a correction introduced in December of the same year.
