Vellore (Tamil Nadu): Four men who allegedly raped the doctor’s gang after abducting her into a car in Katpadi in 2022, was sentenced to 20-year-old rigorous imprisonment by the court of Mahil.

The incident caused political indignation in the state, which led to opposition parties demanding strict actions against the perpetrators.

Suspects arrested in a crime were identified by the police as a partner, car driver, mani alias manicandan, a daily payer employee and his friends Bharath and Santhosh. The police said that the fifth suspect, a minor, faced court before the board for minors.

They were produced before the Vellore Sessions (Fast Track Mahila Court) judge, Mageswari Banu Rekha on Thursday, who granted the verdict and imposed a fine of 25,000 RS on each of them.

The victim and her male friend waited for the car on March 16, 2022, at 12.30 in Katpadi, when a five -person auto -nden gang convinced them to board the vehicle, which claimed that it was a car of action. However, the duo was taken to the bed of the Palar River, where the gang attacked a friend from Lady Doctor and apparently raped it after immobilizing his friend at the Knife point, the police said.

The duo was robbed of mobile phones, two sovereign gold jewelry and ATM cards with which the gang withdrew 40,000 rs.

The incident came to light after three gang members were supposedly arrested in connection with a drunken fight. During the interrogation, they confessed to the rape of the gang along with two others, which led to the arrest of the other suspects.

The police said that the applicant was later obtained from Lady Doctor.
