Student of the month pursuing a career as a dentist is making the most of her last year of studies

RIVERSIDE, Iowa (KCRG) – KCRG-TV9’s Student of the Month is spending her senior year of high school as a part-time student. Highland High School in Riverside has a dual enrollment program at Kirkwood Community College. What really sets Adeline Krotz apart is the type of classes she participates in and her positive attitude.

Adeline Krotz grew up watching her mother enjoy dancing. She likes it too. As a student, Adeline even choreographed the school musical and taught the cast the routine. This encouraged others to try new things.

“Some of us went out and decided to try something new and we all loved it,” Adeline said. “I know many of us will go again this year.”

This is just part of her busy school year, which includes volleyball, golf, National Honor Society, and being a member of student council.

Time spent with friends and teammates makes it all worth it.

“There’s definitely team spirit on our volleyball team,” Adeline said. “He’s doing really well this year. We broke some school records.”

She also stays busy as a student, including taking challenging classes at Kirkwood Community College.

“Yes, it can be a lot. This year I’m taking statistics and a lot of it, every time I’m not doing something, I’m studying, doing homework.

Ryan Ronan, Student and Academic Support Coordinator at Kirkwood Regional Center, sees the impact her positive attitude has on others.

“If I had to describe this student: a happy, nice, fierce student who has character and is just a positive person,” he said.

Peggy Schwab, a counselor at Highland High School, says she is enrolled in challenging college classes there.

“She was no slouch at all in her studies,” she said.
“He’s on our dean’s list at Kirkwood,” Ronan said. “What stands out is that few high school students participate in the classes in which this student is enrolled.”
She has 35 credits at Kirkwood and has completed two internships.
“She is a great leader and an inspiration to other kids,” Schwab said. “He is an example of what you can do in a small school and how to really prioritize yourself, your choices and your life so you can get to where you want to go.”

One of her goals is to become a dentist and one day open her own clinic.

“I love helping other people,” Adeline said. “When I was in sixth grade, I got braces and it definitely changed my life. I think that really inspired me to become interested in dentistry.”

He has support behind him and will definitely enjoy being a high school senior.

“I’m just endlessly proud of Adeline and her willingness to prove herself and try different things,” Schwab said. “I think that will make it successful in the long run.”
