Man who almost killed Nancy Pelosi’s husband sentenced to life in prison without parole on state charges

A man already serving 30 years in prison for a brutal attack on the husband of former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole as a result of a state trial, – reports the Associated Press.

On October 28, 2022, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Paul DePape broke into the couple’s San Francisco home through a window and shouted, “Where’s Nancy, where’s Nancy?” He he ended up beating 82-year-old Pelosi in the head with a hammer as officers responded to a 911 call from the home.

DePape’s state trial faces multiple charges, including aggravated kidnapping resulting in bodily injury or death, false imprisonment of an elderly or dependent adult, threatening the family of a public official, first-degree burglary of a dwelling, and preventing or deterring a witness by force or threats, the report said. The report shows that a San Francisco jury has already found DePape guilty of assaulting a family member of a federal official and attempting to kidnap a federal official.

Judge Harry Dorfman denied a request for a new trial by DePape’s lawyers. “It is my intention that Mr. DePape will never leave prison and will never be eligible for parole,” Dorfman said. “I don’t like you. In this case, I feel sorry for the victim who is lucky to be alive.”

According to his outlet, while addressing the court before sentencing, DePape expressed no remorse for attacking Paul Pelosi and read a conspiracy-laden statement that included allegations that 9/11 “was an inside job.”

Pelosi’s daughter, Christine, read her father’s statement, which began: “The last restful sleep I had was on October 28, 2022,” before explaining the physical and mental impact the attack had on him. He said the attack left him with bumps on his head, a metal plate, dizziness and nerve damage in his left arm, and sleeping alone at home brought back memories of the attack, according to the report.

DePape admitted during his federal trial that he intended to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage, record her interrogation and “break her kneecaps” if she did not admit to lying about “Russiagate” – the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign, reported in report.
