EFCC arrests four ‘bank hackers’ in Abuja

EFCC arrests four ‘bank hackers’ in Abuja

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says its operatives have arrested about four suspected bank robbers in Abuja.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the anti-graft agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, said they were arrested over alleged conspiracy, unauthorized access to banks’ computer systems and fraudulent withdrawal of depositors’ funds.

He identified the suspects as Chima Anthony Nwigwe, the alleged leader of the bank hacking syndicate; Mohammed Bello Mahmud; Effiong Victor Emmanuel; Managing Director of Downstone Ultimate Limited, Daminan Ali.

The EFCC spokesman said the suspects were arrested following an operation in Abuja based on useful intelligence information.

He said the suspects were allegedly involved in hacking and compromising the databases of commercial banks, causing fake transfers and withdrawals through various digital platforms.

Dele also noted that the suspects will be charged to court once the investigation is completed.
