Dodgers’ Tommy Edman Attacks Yankees Fans for Interfering with Mookie Betts: ‘Ridiculous’

Tommy Edman didn’t need this pair overzealous Yankees fans who literally took the fourth game into his own hands on Tuesday night.

“From my perspective, it looked ridiculous,” the Dodgers reliever said of the fans who caught Mookie Betts fouling out in the first inning of the game Yankees won 11-4 in Game 4 on Tuesday night, according to The Athletic.. “The guy tried to rip (Betts)’s glove off by pulling his wrist and it looked like he was thrown out, and I’m glad he did. I’ve never seen anything like this. It was unacceptable.”

The Yankees’ first batting night Tuesday night was one of the more bizarre situations you’ll see in a baseball game when Gleyber Torres picked up a foul ball to right field and Betts caught it straight into the wall.

One Yankees fan – later identified as Austin Capobianco — tried to either rip Betts’ glove off or at least knock the ball away.

While Betts tried to pull his hand away from the fan, another grabbed his right hand in a stunning gesture.

Betts understandably underestimated the interaction in the moment.

A pair of fans were kicked out for their behavior.

The former Red Sox star later downplayed the incident and said he was not injured during the game.

“I didn’t even know he grabbed my hand,” he said. “It’s totally fine.”

He added: “As far as the person and the game are concerned, it doesn’t matter. We lost. It doesn’t matter. I’m fine, he’s fine. Everything’s all right. We lost the game and that’s what I’m focused on. We must turn the page and prepare for tomorrow.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts described the situation as “the fans interfered and the umpires rightly responded.”

Game 5 will be played Wednesday night in the Bronx with Gerrit Cole hoping to keep the Yankees’ season alive when he faces Jack Flaherty in a rematch of the first game.
