A beloved former Wichita K-9 firefighter has died

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Wichita Fire Department reported the death of a former WFD K-9 Sporty accelerator detection vehicle on Wednesday.

Sporty retired in 2015 after five years of service. It belonged to retired fire marshal Stuart Bevis.

She was unofficially known as the guard dog of the 11th floor of City Hall, but over the past nine years she had been getting used to eating from a bowl, resting with her owner, and scavenging for any bacon she could find.

Sporty was 15 years old.
