High school football player seriously injured in car crash in New Jersey

Authorities said an 18-year-old high school football player was seriously injured Sunday afternoon after two SUVs collided on Route 24 in Morris County.

State police said the crash occurred on the city’s east side at 12:23 p.m., when one SUV struck another near milepost 2.95 in Florham Park.

Police said the SUV that was hit overturned and the teenager was seriously injured. Three other passengers in the SUV and the driver suffered minor injuries, and the other driver also suffered minor injuries.

The 18-year-old who was seriously injured is a senior on the girls soccer team at Whippany Park High School. Officials with the Hanover Park Regional High School District had no immediate comment.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
