What was the cause of the plane crash?

Authorities said the 15-year-old Boeing 737-800 struck a concrete fence and burst into flames after its front landing gear apparently failed to deploy.

An inquiry is still looking into the incident, but Geoffrey Thomas, an aviation expert and commentator, has already done so was speculated BBC that the cause may be a bird strike.

He said: “It appears there has been a bird strike and damage to one of the engines, the right one.

“That would put a lot of pressure in the cockpit.

“Given all the checks and verifications related to the engine failure, it could very well be that the pilots simply forgot to extend the landing gear. Whether the engine situation was such that they felt they didn’t have time to do it, we don’t know.”

He added: “Many things about this tragedy don’t make sense.”
