Peter Wright’s wife ‘not happy’ with Van Gerwen as marriage mocked again | Other | Sport

Another darts star mocked Peter Wright’s relationship with wife Joanne after Michael van Gerwen allegedly irritated them. The Dutchman criticized his World Cup teammate after they both reached the quarter-finals this week.

He claimed that Wright “talks nonsense” at press conferences because he is “not allowed to express his opinions at home.” This came after the Scot allegedly cunningly named his next opponent, Callan Rydz, as the tournament favorite.

The topic back and forth was discussed on Darts Draait Door a podcast in which Van Gerwen’s compatriot Vincent van der Voort agrees with him and makes fun of Wright’s relationship with his wife. By Dart newshe said, “I don’t think Mrs. Wright will be very pleased with what Michael said. And neither does Peter himself.

“But what often happens in their relationship is that he doesn’t have a say in the house. I know he still gets pocket money. Well, if that’s the case, then you’re not the boss at home. I can tell you that. So I think it’s true.”

Van der Voort knows both Wright and his other half well, having been a regular on the PDC circuit since 2007. Joanne joins “Snakebite” on the road and is tasked with tidying up his Mohican hairstyle before matches.

“But she’s not the easiest one,” Van der Voort continued. “I did an exhibition with him, and then you have to sit on stage and give autographs to everyone. She then just stood behind him to keep an eye on him. It’s not the easiest thing, but maybe he needs it too. Maybe he has money problems and that’s why he gets pocket money.”

Van Gerwen dismissed Wright’s potential mind games, which he has been accused of in the past. He similarly engaged in a war of words with 2024 world champion Luke Humphries before beating him in the last 16.

“Every year at the World Cup he talks so much nonsense, Peter Wright, he’s always allowed to talk nonsense,” Van Gerwen told reporters. “Nobody takes him seriously on the Tour either because he’s not allowed to express his opinion at home.”

Being on opposite sides of the draw, the pair may only meet in the final. But with an extra bite away from the oche, it would be a tempting prospect if it materialized.
