BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A trial date has been set for next year for a former Arvin High teacher accused of engaging in sex acts with an underage student.

Court records show Michael Joseph Parra had a court hearing on Wednesday, with a March 17 trial date. He is charged with seven crimes.

Court documents show police said Parra’s wife contacted authorities in November 2023 after finding sexual messages between him and a 17-year-old student on his cell phone.

The documents show that the girl admitted to having sexual relations with Parra, who was then 44. She told police she willingly engaged in sexual activity on a futon bed in the attic above his classroom and in a closet.
