A Berks man charged with murder after a fatal crash on Route 422 in August

A Berks County man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with an August car crash that killed a Schuylkill County man.

Luke Austin Thomason, 27, of South Heidelberg Township, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a crash in Heidelberg Township that resulted in the death of Brian Strubhar, 57, of Pine Grove in Schuylkill County, South Heidelberg police said Tuesday.

Thomason was charged with vehicular homicide, recklessly endangering another person, careless driving resulting in death, reckless driving and related offenses.

He was taken to the Berks County Central Processing Center to await arraignment.

According to the police investigation:

On August 29 at approximately 4:35 p.m., Thomason was driving eastbound on Penn Avenue at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for a red light at Big Spring Road.

At the same time, the northbound lanes of Big Spring Road turned green and the vehicle driven by Strubhar entered the intersection, where it was struck by Thomason.

Strubhar was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Berks County Coroner’s Office.

South Heidelberg police were assisted in the investigation by Pennsylvania State Police and the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
