On January 9, barefoot Nazareno devotees could board LRT1 and LRT2 trains

Barefoot followers of Jesus of Nazareno will be able to board LRT Lines 1 and 2 on Thursday, January 9.

“Top Tips for Poong Nazareno Disciples for Daily Traslacion,” LRMC said on Advisory Wednesday as it released guidelines for devotees ahead of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.

It also reminded devotees to wear comfortable clothes and carry small bags to ensure their safety and comfort during the procession.

LRMC said LRT1 platforms will operate on a regular schedule starting at 4:30 a.m., with the last trains leaving from Dr. Station. Santos at 10 p.m. and from Fernando Poe Jr. Station. at 22:15

“With LRMC, you can track LRT-1 travel information. They can assist security officers and health care workers in LRT-1 installations,” the advisory reads.

The Quirino Grandstand, where the procession will begin, can be reached via the United Nations and Central LRT-1 stations, while the Quiapo Church can be reached via the Carriedo and Doroteo Jose LRT-1 stations.

In a separate advisory, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) said that from January 9, barefoot devotees will also be allowed to board trains.

“For Kapistahan Poong Nazareno, debotong nakayapak is the most popular in LRT-2. Ngunit tandaan, ipapatupad par rin after the ‘No inspection, no entry’ policy,” the guide reads.

(On the Feast of Jesus of Nazareno, barefoot devotees are welcome to ride the LRT-2. However, please note that we will still adhere to the “No Inspection, No Entry” policy).

Earlier in the day, technical advisor for the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus, Alex Israga, said he expected the procession faster and smoother this year.

“Last year umabot lang po ‘yan ng about 15 hours. So tingin po namin magiging mas mabilis ngayon compared in the past dahil mas kakaunti ‘yung makakasampa ng andas, hindi kagaya noon morning before the pandemic mahigit isang daan ang nakakasampa diyan, he said.

(Last year it only took about 15 hours. So we think it will be faster now compared to the past because fewer people will be able to get on the car than in previous years before the pandemic, when over a hundred people climbed on it. )

The procession will take place according to the “traditional” procession route” from the Quirino Tribune to the Minor Basilica on Thursday.
