Another woman ‘raped’ in Moheshkhali

Yesterday morning, days after a teenage girl was gang-raped, a housewife was allegedly raped by miscreants from Moheshkhali upazila of Cox Bazar in Kalamarchara.

About five people broke into the victim’s house in the early morning hours. First they tied up the family and then tortured them. At one point, one of the intruders raped the housewife. They also took away Tk 3.45 lakh in cash, said Mohammad Kaisar Hamid, officer-in-charge of Moheshkhali police station, quoting the victim’s family.

After the incident, the victim was taken to the Upazila health center.

Her husband filed a case against five unnamed persons at Moheshkhali police station in connection with the incident.

“Some miscreants have been identified. Actions have been taken to catch them,” the organizer added.

Meanwhile, the Rab-15 team has arrested one of the main accused in the case filed on Sunday in connection with the gang rape of a teenage girl at the Bodorkahli trade union in Chakaria.

Md Farooq, 27, son of Gias Uddin of Tutiakhali Para union, was arrested in Koyarbeel area, said Additional Superintendent of Police Kamruzzaman, senior deputy director (legal and media) of Rab-15.

According to the victim’s statement, she was abducted at knifepoint on Sunday and gang-raped by around 8-10 men around 10 p.m. near Bodorkhali Bridge while she was returning home to Moheshkhali from Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram, according to OC Manjur Kader Bhuyan of the police. After the incident, the victim’s father filed a case at the Chakaria police station, accusing six people.

Accused Mohammad Tajum alias Tajul Uddin, 22; Amit Hasan, 25; Tarek Zia, 21; and Md. Kajal was arrested at various places before the case was filed.

According to OC Manjur, another accused, Mr. Choton, has been on the run since the incident.
