Police arrest man suspected of double murder in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico – Detectives have arrested a 19-year-old man accused of double murder during an alleged gun and drug deal last year.

Investigators say 19-year-old Nathaniel Laws shot and killed 20-year-old Abdullah Abbas and Abbas’ girlfriend.

According to police, Abbas used an account called “GunMart” to sell drugs and weapons on Telegram. Detectives said this is how Abbas arranged to meet Laws on June 4 at 3111 Jane Pl. NE They said nearby neighbors reported seeing a man running from the scene through the arroyo. Detectives added they later identified the man as Laws.

Detectives said they tracked down Laws after learning he was trying to sell a gun Abbas allegedly had in his possession at the time of his death. They said they searched the home where Laws was staying Wednesday and found a gun in a suitcase.

Laws now faces two counts of murder with an enhanced firearm, assault with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.
