A father-son duo beat up a family over a road dispute and honking of the horn

A traffic dispute turned violent when a father-son couple thrashed a family for honking their horn in a traffic jam on the Mundhwa-Koregaon road in Pune. The incident took place near Carnival Hotel in Mundhwa on Thursday evening around 8:45 p.m.

The accused have been identified as Raju Gaikwad and his son Shubham Gaikwad.

According to police, the victim Rajesh Waghchaure was traveling in a car with his family to his home from Mundhwa to Koregaon Park. At around 9 p.m., while returning home, Waghchaure got stuck in a traffic jam on the Mundhwa-Koregaon Park road. Due to heavy traffic jams, Waghchaure honked his horn, looking for a space.

Serious damage dealt

Angered by the horn, accused Shubham Gaikwad, who was riding a two-wheeler, got into an argument with him. Meanwhile, the argument turned violent and Gaikwad slapped Rajesh Waghchaure hard on the face, which led to serious eye injuries. Moreover, due to the local conflict, the accused also started pelting stones on his car, which led to injuries to his family.

Nilkanth Jagtap (Senior Police Inspector, Mundhwa Police Station) told FPJ, “We have arrested these two, father and son. An argument between them about traffic and honking turned violent. They are in police custody until January 13, 2025. The case is ongoing.”

A case was registered under sections 118(2), 118(1) and 324(3) of the BNS at Mundhwa police station.
