A 22-year-old transgender man who stabbed a classmate to “please Slender Man” when he was just 12 years old is to be released from the mental health facility where he is currently staying.

Morgan Geyser, which psychologist says he now uses pronouns, was one of two assailants involved in the 2014 stabbing death of their classmate, Payton Leutner.

Geyser worked with another classmate, Anissa Weier, to lure Leutner into the woods in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where they proceeded to stab her 19 times.

After the attack, Geyser and Weier were detained, and police learned that they had allegedly stabbed Leutner in an attempt to “please” the fictional character Slender Man.

Leutner suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack, but fortunately survived.

The two attackers were charged in adult court with attempted first-degree intentional murder, but each received a different sentence for the crime.

Weier pleaded guilty to a lesser charge and was found not guilty mental illness or defect in connection with a charge of first-degree murder.

She was sentenced to up to 25 years in a psychiatric facility, but was released on supervised release in 2021.

Meanwhile, Geyser was convicted of the charges but found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. After the attack, he was also diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Geyser was sentenced to up to 40 years in a psychiatric prison, but on Thursday (Jan. 9), Waukesha County District Judge Michael Bohren ordered him released on supervised release.

The judge gave the state Department of Health Services 60 days to develop a plan for Geyser, who will remain at the Winnebago Mental Health Institute until the plan is finalized.

Upon his release, Geyser is expected to remain in a group home, ABC Action News reports.

His release comes after a psychologist working with Geyser testified about how prepared he was to be released, and psychologist Brooke Lundbohm told the judge she did not believe Geyser “currently poses a significant risk of causing significant harm (to himself), others or property damage “.

However, Leutner’s mother expressed her desire for Geyser to remain at the facility.

Before the news of her release, Stacie Leutner told ABC News: “Morgan Geyser has withdrawn (his) request for release twice.

“Recently, (his) request was rejected. “We are confident that the justice system will make a decision that will ensure the safety of the community and my daughter.”

As a condition of Geyser’s supervised release, he will be required to wear an ankle monitor.
