PARKERSBURG – A Parkersburg man was arrested today after allegedly making threats.

According to Police Chief Matthew Board, at approximately 6:15 a.m., the Parkersburg Police Department received a call from an individual claiming to be armed and making credible threats, which raised concerns for both his safety and the safety of the public.

Shortly after the initial call, reports of shots fired were received in the 1400 block of 15th Avenue. Officers were dispatched and arrived at the scene within a few minutes and immediately carried out an inspection near the house in question, he added.

The Parkersburg Police Department’s SWAT team and crisis negotiation team were also dispatched to assist with the situation. After approximately four hours of negotiations and tactical efforts, the subject surrendered and left the residence. He said SWAT officers took him into custody without further incident.

Board said the Wood County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the incident and expressed his thanks to them.

The board said the incident remains under investigation and additional details will be released as they become available, the board said Thursday afternoon.
