Police say human remains found on Thursday, January 9 in the area of ​​Bally Haly Golf Course in St. John’s, this is the missing Joshua Miller.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers responded Thursday morning to a report of possible human remains located at a new housing development near the golf course on the east side, near Stavanger Drive and next to Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove.

The provincial chief medical examiner’s office identified the body as Miller’s.

“The RNC sends its sincere sympathies to the family and friends in this tragic loss,” said Const. – wrote James Cadigan in a media release late Friday afternoon.

Miller’s cause of death remains under investigation, but police say foul play is not suspected at this stage.

Police say as the investigation continues, area residents can expect police presence in the area throughout the weekend.

Missing since 2013

Miller was last seen in the early morning hours of February 8, 2013. According to his friends, he was involved in a fight on George Street and was kicked in the head, which led to him being put in a taxi.

Miller reportedly ran out of the taxi, leaving his phone behind, when it dropped him off near Stavanger Drive and Blue Puttee Drive. He was never seen again.

Miller was reportedly wearing only a T-shirt and jeans at the time of his disappearance.

RNC and search and rescue personnel do he did a lot of research they searched for Miller’s body on the east end and in other areas of the city for years, acting on information received during an investigation that remains active to this day.

By Friday, Miller was listed on the RNC’s website as one of the past missing persons for whom police have exhausted all investigative measures to find him, along with a plea for the public to contact investigators with any information about his disappearance.

Miller’s family has also made repeated requests for information from the community. In a public social media post last year, his sister, Karen Fifield, described the pain of not knowing his whereabouts or the circumstances of his disappearance as a constant burden.

Telegram conversation last February, Fifield described Miller as having a vibrant passion for life, an infectious laugh and a warm kindness. Miller, a university student, was active, loved jokes and had aspirations to become a police officer, she added.

“He was only 20 years old, he had big dreams and aspirations that really drove him forward in life,” she said at the time. “It’s devastating to think that these dreams will never come true.”
