6A/5A girls volleyball bracket: 5 northern Utah schools receive first-round byes | News, sports, work

Eleven more Northern Utah girls volleyball teams learned of playoff spots when the UHSAA released the 6A and 5A state tournament brackets on Thursday morning.

Layton, Fremont, Weber, Northridge and Region 1 champion Syracuse were spared from playing a first-round game beginning Nov. 5 at home. The winners will travel to the UCCU Center at Utah Valley University in Orem for the second and quarterfinal rounds on Thursday, November 7.

The 6A and 5A semifinal and championship rounds will be played on Friday, November 8, at UVU.

Below are the lineups for the Northern Utah teams. Full brackets can be found online at uhsaa.org.

6A playoffs

Fourteen teams received byes from the first round, and four teams will participate in first round matches.

First round, November 5: No. 18 Davis (6-20) and No. 15 Riverton (13-15).

Second round, November 7: No. 9 Layton (17-11) vs. No. 8 Fremont (18-8), No. 13 Weber (13-15) vs. No. 4 Corner Canyon (21-7), No. 5 Syracuse (20-8) at No. 12 Stadium Westlake (14-14), Davis/Riverton vs. Copper Hills No. 10 (13-15)

5A playoffs

Eight teams received a first-round bye, and 16 teams will participate in first-round matches.

First round, November 5: No. 24 Roy (4-19) at No. 9 Clearfield (18-10), No. 18 Bonneville (9-13) at No. 15 Cyprus (14-13), No. 22 Kearns (8-14) at Box Elder 11 (15-13).

Second round, November 7: No. 8 Timpview (16-12) vs. Roy/Clearfield, No. 5 Northridge (16-10) vs. No. 12 East High (14-11)/no. 21 Springville (7-21), No. 2 Skyline (26-2) vs. Bonneville/Cyprus, No. 6 Maple Mountain (18-10) vs. Kearns/Box Elder
