Bond granted in connection with College of Charleston robberies | Criminality

Coroner Moncks charged with involvement in series of robberies late last summer on and near the College of Charleston campus he received bail on January 8.

District Judge Roger Young set 21-year-old Derrick Johnson Gaillard’s bail at $50,000, of which he will pay 10 percent upon release. According to the Charleston County Jail websiteGaillard posted bail on January 9.

According to Charleston police, officers were called to an armed robbery at the intersection of Pitt and Montagu streets near the college campus around 1 a.m. on Aug. 25. Minutes later, officers were notified that another robbery had occurred nearby in the area of ​​Duncan and Coming streets.

In both cases, the victims reported that the suspects pointed weapons at them and stole their personal belongings.

Gaillard was arrested and charged on August 26 with four counts of armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery and criminal conspiracy. On September 10, police announced that Josiah Limehouse, Ty’ron Kentrell and an unidentified 17-year-old were facing the same charges in connection with the incidents.

Deputy Solicitor General Daniel Cooper said during the hearing that Gaillard was not one of the gunmen involved in the robberies, but is the accused getaway driver. He also noted that these were the first and only criminal charges in his file.
