A person has died after being rescued from a Coromandel cliff

A person has died after being found at the bottom of a Coromandel cliff.

Emergency services were there called Hahei Beach around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday Police said a person was found in a critical condition at the foot of the cliff but later died at the scene.

Another person was trapped on the cliff but was not injured and was later rescued by a fire and line rescue team.

St John said it had dispatched one first responder unit, one ambulance and one helicopter to the scene.

Hahei Beach is located southeast of Whitianga and is a popular summer destination on the Coromandel Peninsula.

The death will be referred to the coroner.
