SAPD says a 20-year-old woman has died in a multi-vehicle crash on the North Side

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Police confirmed the woman’s death was injured in a four-vehicle accident on Friday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the westbound lane of Northeast Loop 410 near Austin Highway.

According to SAPD, the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee told police he entered the main lane of Northeast Loop 410 from the service road at normal highway speeds.

However, witnesses told police that the driver of the Jeep was speeding and weaving in and out of heavy traffic.

Authorities said Friday that the driver of the Jeep failed to notice that the vehicle had stopped in front of him and failed to slow down in time before rear-ending a Dodge pickup truck. An SAPD officer on scene said that after the initial collision, the Jeep spun on its side and then collided with two other vehicles.

Police said Saturday that a collision between a Jeep and a Dodge truck caused major damage to the Jeep’s passenger side and injured a woman sitting in the Jeep’s passenger seat.

The woman was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Officers said she was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

On Saturday morning, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the passenger as 20-year-old Shye Brown.

Two other people were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators said the 20-year-old driver of the Jeep, who SAPD initially said was a woman but later confirmed was a man, could face charges related to the crash.

SAPD said the investigation is ongoing.
