‘Dog the Bounty Hunter’ Reveals How He Felt After Wife Beth Chapman’s Death: ‘I Couldn’t Stop…’

Chapman recalls how a longtime friend helped him heal from a period of intense grief.

Bounty hunter dogStar Duane Chapman was an emotional wreck after his wife of 13 years. Beth Chapman tragically passed away in June 2019. In 2017, Beth was diagnosed with stage II throat cancer. When she was placed in a medically induced coma in Honolulu before her death, Duane struggled. During his speech at The Doctor Oz Show in 2020he reminded having suicidal thoughts and how his longtime friend and personal assistant, Moon Angell, helped him heal from a period of intense grief.



“I couldn’t stop crying,” he recalls. “I am an Apache. I wasn’t going to commit suicide with a gun or anything like that. I was going to take a lot of pills because she came out. Beth left all her big pills there. So I thought one sip of water would be enough for me,” he told host Dr. Mehmet Oz. – Did you want to commit suicide? – Oz asked surprised. “Oh, yeah,” Duane confessed, thanking Angell for pulling him “out of a dark hole.” “Well, this one is pretty rough,” he said.

Angell also revealed that she encouraged Duane to focus on his work. “I say… this is how we do it. He must go now. We need to get back into the show and keep it busy again. She then described their relationship as “intimate.’ She said, “It has to be intimate… Because there are a lot of powerful things going on with the Dog.”

Duane and Angell actually sparked dating rumors after Beth’s death given this apparent closeness. The dog even jokingly proposed to his assistant on the show. He said: “I am so much happier having her around. Moon Angel, will you marry me? However, a family insider revealed at the time that Angell was a close family friend and was not involved in a romantic affair with Duane.



“Since Beth’s death, she has stepped in to help Dog in his time of need. There will never be another Beth,” the source said. Hollywood’s assistant was very close to Beth. She once published a long post a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, reflecting on their unbreakable bond. According to People MagazineAngell has managed the “Bounty Hound” star’s finances, contracts and childcare for more than two decades.

In another tribute after the post was published, Angell called Beth “Little Sis” while talking about happy memories of laughing until her stomach hurt. “I will never forget being a part of this day… remember what I told you B? Angelic…you looked incredibly angelic!!!!” she stated. Duane is now married to Francie Frane. The couple got married in September 2021.
