Authorities said five people were killed and 17 injured when a bus fell into a ditch in Srinagar area of ​​Pauri district.

According to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), the accident occurred near Dahalchauri, where the bus went out of control and fell into a 100-meter-deep gorge.

The bus with 22 passengers on board was heading from Pauri to Dahalchauri, they said, adding that four people died on the spot and one died later.

Local people also helped in carrying out the rescue operation after the accident, and the injured were shifted to the district hospital in Pauri.

Eight of the injured were shifted to a tertiary health center in Srinagar in a critical condition.

Pauri District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan reached the spot and carried out a quick rescue operation under his supervision.

He directed Department of Transportation officials to investigate the causes of the accident.

Prime Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep regret over the accident and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
