The Bay County Council on Aging is hosting its annual fall festival this weekend

BAY COUNTY, FL (WMBB) – For over 30 years, the Bay County Council on Aging has hosted an annual fall festival.

Not only for people to have fun, but also to raise money to provide services to seniors in Bay County.

“We provide services at home. We provide the Meals on Wheels program in Bay County. We have a respite center for caregivers who can bring their loved ones if they suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or memory impairment. We have a volunteer program. We also have several places where seniors can gather, and we also have a new program called the Brain Health Program,” said Chief Operating Officer Andrea Marsh.

Local authorities are urging families to enjoy Halloween safely

The event will start at 7:00 a.m. with a pancake breakfast. They then offer a barbecue lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. before the silent auction begins. You also have a chance to win several items such as baskets and even a 2007 Chevrolet Impala donated by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say this event will help further fund the mission of the Council on Aging.

“So for every dollar we raise, we are able to raise another $9 in federal or state grant funds. We rely primarily on federal and state grants. Most of our funding comes from these grants and we need to raise about one-tenth of the dollars for services. And that’s how we do it. So for every dollar we earn, we can take another $9 and provide $10 in services to seniors in the community,” Marsh said.

The event will also include a junk and treasure sale and a plant sale. Those involved say the community’s support is what makes this event so special.

“We are simply a community engagement event. And it all comes together to support seniors,” Marsh said.

The festival will take place from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the government headquarters on Frankford Avenue.
