Grayson County man sentenced to life in prison for sexual assault of a child

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – A Grayson County man who was on the run for 20 years after being accused of sexual assault was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.

Grayson County District Attorney Brett Smith announced that 51-year-old Anthony Rae was sentenced to two life sentences for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Smith said the Van Alstyne Police Department investigated allegations of abuse against Rae in 2003, and he was arrested and charged later that year.

Rae was released on bail in 2004 while awaiting trial, but he failed to appear in court in 2005.

According to Smith, in 2019 Rae was found in the UK living under the alias Tony Campbell and in 2020 he was arrested in London.

In 2023, Rae was extradited back to Grayson County after several appeals.

Rae was convicted by a jury of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child.
