Kerala Police arrests 44 people in connection with serial rape of Dalits and two accused have fled abroad – Kerala News

Kerala Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case of a Sexual abuse of a Dalit girl in Pathanamthittahas arrested 44 people so far. District Inspector General (DIG) S. Ajeetha Begum confirmed that 30 FIRs have been registered implicating 59 accused.

Two of the accused are absconding and are probably abroad. DIG Begum stated that consideration is being given to issuing an ‘Attention’ circular and red corner notification through Interpol. Efforts are also ongoing to locate and arrest 13 additional people linked to the case.

“We conduct a reliable and scientific study. No accused will be spared,” she said.

The investigation revealed that the girl, now 18, was sexually abused by 62 people aged 13 and over. The defendants include sports coaches, classmates and other athletes. According to reports, the abuse took place at multiple places, including a private bus stand, a rubber plantation and Pathanamthitta General Hospital in January 2024.

The girl’s plight came to light during an advisory session of the Child Welfare Commission after her teachers raised concerns about changes in her behavior.

The SIT, headed by deputy superintendent of police PS Nandakumar and supervised by district superintendent of police VG Vinod Kumar, consists of over 30 officers, including women. DIG Begum mentioned that additional officers will join the team after the Sabarimala pilgrimage season.

Police are focusing on gathering scientific evidence, examining cell phones and securing all necessary documentation to build a solid case.

The National Commission for Women has demanded the immediate arrest of all the accused and demanded a detailed report on the action taken within three days. The Commission stressed the need for a fair and timely investigation to ensure justice.
