KAT suffered thumb injury after loss to Knicks: “That’s what it is”

Cities of Charles Anthony he suffered an injury to his right thumb during the match KnicksMonday night’s 124-119 loss to the Detroit Pistons – and now the question is how much time, if any, will Towns have to miss?

In the first quarter, Towns pounced on Isaiah Stewart, and after Stewart hit the ball, Towns appeared to stick his thumb into the bottom of the backboard. Returning to the court, Towns grimaced in pain, held his thumb behind his back and indicated to the bench that his thumb was injured.

Towns stayed in the game and played defense with his thumb behind his back at times. After the break, he wore a black thumb patch, but was injured again in the second half when he was hit by Tobias Harris.

Towns finished the game with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

“I haven’t heard anything from the doctor yet,” head coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters after the Towns game.

Asked after the game if he had been given any diagnosis regarding the injury, Towns told reporters according to Newsday: “Oh, that’s how it is. That’s really it.”

He repeatedly told reporters, “It is what it is.”

Towns, a native of Piscataway, New Jersey, is playing at an All-Star level this season, averaging 25.4 points and 13.9 rebounds per game.

If he is forced to miss at any point, it could be a major blow to the Knicks, who are already without their injured center Mitchell Robinson, who is scheduled to return to training this month.

Precious Achiuwa is averaging 5.1 points and 5.4 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per game, while Jericho Sims was unavailable on Monday with back spasms. Rookie Ariel Hukporti spent limited time at center.

The Knicks are also scouring the trade market and have been linked to former Kentucky and Patrick School great Nick Richards of the Charlotte Hornets, among others.
