Man arrested for allegedly setting fire to Rolla’s home after violating a protection order

One man has been arrested for allegedly starting a structure fire on Jan. 12 in Phelps County.

On Sunday, Phelps County Sheriff’s Office officers were dispatched to a fire at an apartment building in Rolla.

The victim reported earlier that evening that the suspect, Jordan D. Kuzma, 43, of Rolla, had contacted her personally despite having a protective order.

According to a probable cause statement, Kuzma was later seen on surveillance cameras at the victim’s home at 8:24 p.m.

Deputies noticed he was recorded inside the residence and was allegedly heard saying, “F**k, this house is being burned to the ground…”

Court documents say Kuzma then lowered the frame and smoke and a red glow later grew in the victim’s home.

He was charged with second-degree arson and second-degree burglary.

Kuzma was booked into the Phelps County Jail without bail.
