The victim of Nashville’s first murder suspect of 2025 has been identified

UPDATE: January 13 – The victim in Nashville’s first homicide investigation of the year has been identified as homeless.

On Monday, 42-year-old Steven Hymes was identified as the victim through fingerprints.

The investigation is still ongoing and no suspects have been announced at this time.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) is reporting the first homicide of 2025 near the downtown riverfront.

Police are investigating the death of a possibly homeless man found Wednesday near the riverbank under the sidewalk/road of Gay Street and 1st Avenue.

A white male lived in the area and was found to have suffered blunt force trauma to the head. Two homeless men found the body and reported it to an ambassador working with the Nashville Downtown Partnership. Detectives review camera footage and identify him through fingerprints.
