Bengaluru: A five-year-old boy was injured in an attack on a Malayali family’s car in Kasavanahalli on Wednesday evening. The incident took place when Anoop George, an IT professional residing at Astro Green Cascade Layout in Chikkanayakanahalli, was returning home with his family. Anoop’s son, Steve, suffered head injuries. Anoop, his wife Jis and children Steve and Celeste were in the vehicle at the time.

The incident took place in Kasavanahalli-Choodasandra when two people on a bike stopped their car and asked them to roll down their windows. Suspecting something was wrong, Anoop tried to move forward. At this point, one of the attackers threw a rock at the rear window of the car, injuring Steve with glass shards. Anoop filed a complaint and the Parappana Agrahara police registered a case. One member of the gang was arrested, the second suspect remains at large.

According to reports, attacks at night on families traveling around the city are becoming more frequent. Gangs of robbers stop cars in isolated areas, demanding money and valuables and attacking if their demands are not met. The number of cases of intentionally causing accidents in order to extort money is also increasing. Four months ago, a case was reported in which a scooter driver attacked a Malay family, accusing them of failing to give way. In January last year, police arrested two people for trying to rob a couple by deliberately hitting their car on Sarjapur Road.
