A man has been arrested and charged with vehicular assault in connection with an accident that occurred earlier this month.

Jacob Konig, 42, is charged with assault while reckless driving, reckless driving, failure to notify police of an accident, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, careless driving resulting in bodily injury and speeding over 40 miles per hour. an hour over the limit.

According to a press release from the Grand Junction Police Department, the crash occurred on Oct. 10 just after 9 p.m.

“Officers discovered that a truck traveling at high speed had hit the vehicle from behind, causing serious injuries to the second driver, who is in hospital. A thorough investigation revealed that the truck driver left the scene before law enforcement arrived,” police said.

A passenger in the vehicle, 36-year-old Nichole Melvin, is accused of assisting in the case.

Both Konig and Melvin turned themselves into the Mesa County Jail early Wednesday morning.

According to District Attorney Dan Rubinstein, the victim remains hospitalized.

ATTEMPTED THEFT FROM ATM
