Dominic Henton, 26, received probation and probation for the November 8, 2023 assault of the former U.S. senator from Arizona.

McSally, who served in the Senate from 2019 to 2020, was jogging in a park along the Missouri River in Council Bluffs, Iowa, when a man attacked her, she said in an Instagram video posted that day.

McSally said the man followed her across a footbridge and then grabbed her and tried to grope her, but she managed to fend him off and drove him into the bushes.

Using security camera footage, investigators identified the attacker and arrested Henton the next day in Omaha, Nebraska, across the river from Council Bluffs.

Henton pleaded guilty and was released from prison after serving approximately 90 days. He received a one-year prison sentence suspended for two years and two years’ probation.

said Pottawattamie County Prosecutor Matt Wilber World Herald of Omaha that Henton would go to a residential treatment center in Council Bluffs and participate in a sex offender treatment program.

Former U.S. Sen. Martha McSally, R-Ariz., is providing details about an incident that she says resulted in a sexual assault Wednesday in Council Bluffs.

Shortly after the incident, McSally posted the video on social media saying the man grabbed her “in a bear hug” and then molested and fondled her until she confronted him. She testified that she threw a water bottle at him and chased him into the bushes, where he hid before running away.

“I’m fine. I fought, fled or froze and decided to fight,” she said in an Instagram post.

During Thursday’s hearing, McSally said Henton deserved additional prison time for the trauma and pain he caused her.

“After the attack, I felt pain and nausea. She said that, understandably, the trauma had taken a toll on my body and soul. “Being an active member of society would mean taking full responsibility for these actions and decisions, apologizing for attacking me, which is what Henton asked for, versus opposing a sex offender treatment program,” the former U.S. senator said.
