Oil tanker driver killed in Ibadan night hell – News – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and world news

A yet unidentified oil tanker driver lost his life after the tanker burst into flames along the Ojoo-Iwo Expressway in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, at around 2:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

Initial findings indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit two other trucks on the road. As a result of the impact, both trucks fell into a ditch and burst into flames.

The Director-General of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, described the accident as unfortunate and disclosed that firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the accident following information.

He added that the student driver present at the scene of the accident was rescued and admitted to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, where he is currently receiving medical attention.

“The unfortunate incident was reported at exactly 02:45 hours on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. Fire brigade led by ACFS Ogunkanbi was immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived on time.

Upon arrival, we found three trucks, approximately 20 meters apart, involved in a fire accident.

“The driver of the tanker was recovered while the motorman was rescued from the fire by fire brigade officials and taken to UCH for treatment.

“The devastating fire destroyed the tanker, but agency personnel rescued the two remaining trucks and vehicle spare parts.

“The accident occurred when a tanker with a semi-trailer carrying PMS lost control while driving and hit the other two trucks in front. Both trucks somersaulted into a nearby ditch and caught fire.
