A Dryden man has died following a fiery collision between two vehicles

A 63-year-old Dryden man died Wednesday evening from injuries suffered in a fiery two-vehicle crash near the intersection of West Dryden Road and Sheldon Road. The accident occurred around 6 p.m., prompting the response of the Freeville Fire Department, Dryden Ambulance Service and other emergency services.

Daniel Heath, 63, was found trapped in the burning vehicle. Bystanders responded quickly, using fire extinguishers to control the flames while others tried to free Heath from the wreckage. He was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. The second driver was also taken to hospital but is expected to recover.

According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Heath was driving south on Sheldon Road and failed to stop at a stop sign, which led to the collision. Multiple fire brigades assisted at the scene.
