A dismissed British Museum employee arrested after the “closing” of the Museum’s computer systems News from Great Britain

A former British Museum employee was arrested after alleged burglary and closing of security systems and IT museum.

The person – who was released recently – “entered” and arrested on the spot, said the museum.

Part of the permanent collection of the London attraction was closed on Friday, and temporary exhibitions will remain closed at the weekend.

The spokesman said on Saturday: “The IT contractor, who was released last week, entered the museum and closed several of our systems. The police participated and arrested at the scene.

“We work hard so that the museum returns to full action, but with regret that our temporary exhibitions have been closed today and will remain so on the weekend – TicketHolders have been notified and restless.”

A metropolitan police spokesman said: “The police were called on Thursday, January 23 at 20.25 to report that the man entered the British Museum and caused damage to security systems and IT museum.

“The police quickly participated and arrested a man 50 years old, suspected of burglary and criminal damage. He was released by bail in anticipation of further investigation. “

In August 2023, the museum revealed that there were about 1,500 treasures worth millions of pounds or were stolen or damaged.

Since then, hundreds of items have been returned, including collectors around the world.

Some of the recovered artifacts, including ancient jewels, appeared last year.
