2 Florida teachers resigned rather than implement new grading policy

Big Story: For years, educators in Florida and across the country have been talking about finding ways to make students’ grades better reflect their achievements.

They discussed ideas including non-zero policies and standards-based reporting. Rejection typically follows efforts to move away from the commonly used A-F letter grading system.

The Bradford County School District, north of Gainesville, adopted a grading policy three years ago that includes a “translation chart” intended to explain how a student’s performance in the classroom matches state expectations. Recently, three district elementary schools made the use of the chart mandatory.
