CNN Tapper Live Fact Checks on Trump’s Quote on Protecting Women: ‘Just Quote Him Exactly’

CNN’s Jake Tapper did a live fact-check on Vice President Kamala Harris after she claimed that former President Trump said he would “do whatever he wants” regardless of whether “women like it or not

At a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, on Thursday, Harris said Trump will do whatever he wants when it comes to restricting abortion and policing women’s bodies.

“Now in America, one in three women live in a state where Trump bans abortion, and many of them without exceptions, even in cases of rape and incest, which is immoral. And Donald Trump isn’t done yet. Did everyone hear what he just said yesterday? It’s going to do what it wants, quote, and I quote at this point, ‘whether women like it or not,'” Harris said.

She continued: “We have to vote because this is what it is all about. You know, they say you have to listen to people when they tell you who you are, and this isn’t the first time he’s told us that. “He does not believe that women should have free will and the power to make decisions about their own bodies.”

Trump commented on how he was “protecting women” from illegal immigrants let in under Harris’ border policy.

“Kamala has imported criminal migrants from prisons and jails, insane asylums and mental institutions around the world, from Venezuela to Congo, including savage criminals who attack, rape and murder our women and girls. “Anyone who would allow monsters to kidnap and kill our children should not be anywhere near the Oval Office,” Trump said at the rally.

Trump added: “I will do it whether women like it or not. I will protect them.”

After playing a clip of Harris’ rally, Tapper corrected the vice president, adding that she had left out the context.

“When Trump said he would do something for women, whether they like it or not, whether women like it or not, he was talking about protecting women, protecting women, whether they like it or not. You can certainly agree with that with the language, but he wasn’t saying he was just going to do whatever he wanted anyway,” Tapper said.

After the panel on “The Lead” laughed during their fact-checking, Tapper added: “I mean, but you know what I mean. He says I will protect them, whether or not these women want me to protect them.”

Democratic strategist Karen Finney noted, “Some would say it’s misogynistic…”

“It’s not like she portrayed it,” Tapper said.

“Listen, ultimately I think we have to be careful in these last few days. We did it in 2016,” Finney said. – He’ll say something terrible and funny…

– So just quote it exactly. Tapper paused.

“That’s not what I mean,” Finney continued. “I just don’t think we need to give every update because it’s about where she wanted to be, which is we know who this guy is. This is not someone who respects women. That being said, sorry, I think Puerto Rico Advertisement or General Kelly’s comments They belong to a different category.”

Harris did the same, inaccurately interpretation of Trump’s statements in the post on X.

“Donald Trump thinks he should decide what you do with your body. Whether you like it or not,” Harris wrote, sharing a clip of Trump’s speech.
