Air quality issues, winds close Fredericktown R-1 schools on Friday

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. (KFVS) – Fredericktown R-1 Schools principals have made the decision to cancel classes on Friday, November 1.

According to the district’s Facebook page, the decision was made to close schools Friday due to concerns about air quality, wind direction, and emergency management teams plan to conduct suppression treatment at a critical mineral recovery site that will produce smoke.

Emergency crews are working to clean up a large fire at a battery recycling plant on Wednesday afternoon.

School principals say yes maintaining contact with the Environmental Protection Agency, the Madison County Emergency Coordinator and the Madison County Health Department for guidance on whether classes should be held in session.

Classes were held on Wednesday and Thursday.

Classes were canceled again at Fredericktown R-1 schools on Friday.
