Amber Alert leads to the arrest of a Brainerd man in a shooting, kidnapping case – InForum

BRAINERD — Law enforcement arrested a 35-year-old Brainerd man early Friday, Nov. 1, on suspicion of a shooting death and the alleged abduction of five people from a residence northeast of Brainerd.

At approximately 1:50 a.m., Crow Wing County sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting on Loerch Road in Maple Grove Township, east of Brainerd. Officers arrived on scene and found an adult male deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Lyle Maske, 62, Brainerd.

Investigators identified Chad Aanerud as the suspect in the shooting. Aanerud allegedly took five people against their will from a residence in the 15000 block of Loerch Road and left the scene in a white 2017 Chrysler Pacifica. The sheriff’s office said it believes the shooting death and the alleged kidnapping are related.

Those detained against their will are a 33-year-old woman and four minors aged 14, 11, 7 and 3.

An Amber Alert was issued around 6:30 a.m. Friday with information about the suspect and vehicle.

At approximately 7:15 a.m., the vehicle was located and stopped by law enforcement in Morrison County. Aanerud was detained and five people were in the vehicle without injuries.

“This is an active investigation and more details will be released as they become known,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories titled “personnel.” Often the title “staff” is used when transcribing basic news from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, that require little or no reporting. Sometimes this signature is used when an article has multiple authors or when the article is created by combining previously reported news from different sources. If external sources are used, this is noted in the story.
