Cleveland police will use ‘street milling’ to combat street takeovers

A new Cleveland Police pilot program will use “street milling” to combat a series of illegal street takeovers across the city.

The new program, announced on Thursday, will alter roads to make it more difficult for vehicles to perform stunts on them, WKYC-TV reports. “Street milling” would be used to create grooves at intersections and rough, uneven surfaces along streets.

“Street takeovers are dangerous not only to the participants, but also to the general public in the area,” Cleveland Police Chief Annie Todd said in a statement.

The list of roads that will be included in the pilot has not been published. Police published a photo of the city’s intersection, where a checkerboard pattern was introduced in September.

The Cleveland Police Department’s Street Takeover Task Force is working with the city’s streets department to implement the program.
