Young bandit– real name Jeffery Williams – was released from prison on Thursday after entering a plea agreement in the YSL racketeering trial, now considered the longest-running criminal trial in Georgia history.

When did the young bandit go to prison?

The rapper has been in prison since his arrest in May 2022. Young Thug was arrested on May 9 on numerous gang-related charges, along with 27 other people, including Gunnain a 56-count indictment linked to the YSL label.

A month after his arrest, he had a bail hearing but was denied bail. Prosecutors argued he was in charge of the operation and called him the “most dangerous” member of the alleged gang, saying he should not be allowed back on the streets.

Why did he go to prison?

Young Thug was sentenced to prison following a 56-count indictment for violating Georgia’s Act on Criminally Influenced and Corrupt Organizations.

He was identified as the leader of YSL, which prosecutors say – although originally a reference to his Young Stoner Life Records label – also stands for Young Slime Life, an Atlanta gang with ties to the national Bloods. Fulton County District Attorney Willis fans describes the gang as violent with a history of crimes dating back to 2012, including murders, robberies, thefts, car hijackings and assaults.

What happened during the trial?

After his arrest in 2022, it took over a year for a jury to be empaneled, and the YSL RICO trial finally began on November 27, 2023. However, the trial faced significant challenges, including the stabbing of a co-defendant in the Fulton County Jail and a witness testifying at the high, removal of one judge and second referee withdraws.

A notable moment early in the trial was when Thug’s attorney, Brian Steelhe provided an alternative definition of his client’s name as “Truly Humble Before God.” He also asserted that “Pushin P” stands for “pushing for positivity” and that YSL is named after fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent.

Another viral moment came in January when a video showed his legal team playing Rich Gang’s “Lifestyle” while everyone in the room largely remained silent to the rapper’s 2014 hit.

What was his deal?

On October 31, Young Thug pleaded guilty to six counts: one for engaging in criminal street gang activity, three for violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, one for possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and one for possession of a machine gun.

Judge Paige Reese Whitaker sentenced him to 15 years in prison without penalty. “I know you have talent and if you decide to continue rapping, you need to try to use your influence to let kids know that this is not the right path and that there are ways out of poverty other than hanging out with influential people. guy down the street selling drugs,” the judge noted.
