Police: A Petaluma high school student was hospitalized after an off-campus fight

A Petaluma High School student was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries” Thursday evening after a large fight, according to a Petaluma Nixle police alert.

A Petaluma High School student was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries” Thursday evening after a large fight, according to a Petaluma Nixle police alert.

Officials say a fight between two groups of teenagers involving about 20 people was reported just before 10:45 p.m.

During the fight, one of the minors suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He is expected to make a full recovery.

Sgt. Ryan McGreevy said the department is actively investigating the incident and cannot release any information at this time about the details of the minor’s injuries or age.

Casa Grande High School students were involved in the fight, but it took place outside of school hours, campus administration said in a community statement.

As a result of this incident, the school will have increased surveillance from Petaluma Police and North Bay Security next week.

“We know that events like this weigh heavily on all of us, especially since Casa Grande High School is a vibrant and amazing community,” the statement read. “We have a deep sense of school pride and work hard to ensure that our students, staff and families feel welcome and safe at all times.”

Mental health counselors will also be available to students who feel affected by the incident. School officials encourage students to report anything they hear or see.
